Arrest Raila at your own risk, MCA tells Nkaissery

 

Nyamira County Assembly Majority Leader Laban Masira believes arresting Opposition chief Raila Odinga and his Coalition for Reforms and Democracy co-principals Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka could plunge the country into violence.

Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery Sunday threatened to arrest the three should they defy an order of not convening at Uhuru Park during Madaraka Day celebrations scheduled for Wednesday.

The Opposition has reportedly booked the venue ahead of Wednesday despite conflicting information from an evangelical team which also claims to have booked the venue.

During a phone conversation on Monday, Masira warned Nkaissery of the planned move, and challenged him to take responsibility of the aftermath.

“Raila has been in Kenyan politics for long and he is a darling of the people. If Nkaissery makes his threat real, then I see a situation where the country will experience unprecedented violence. He commands a sizeable population and arresting him means inviting war,” Masira said.

“The CS should desist from making reckless comments that can plunge the country into violence and in case that happens, he must take responsibility. Raila and his co-principals must be respected and such ridicule by Nkaissery is dangerous for the peaceful coexistence of our people. Let him arrest any of them at his own peril,” Masira added.

He also joined the Madaraka Day debate accusing the government of ‘creating’ an unnecessary standoff between people from different political parties.

“There is nothing wrong with Cord holding a meeting at Uhuru Park because we have the freedom to assemble. It’s within the framework of the Constitution and the government should stop inciting people,” he said.
